Day 1: Sex Therapy in student counselling
Day 2: Mindfulness Practice for Student Counsellors
5th & 6th June 2014 Salthill Hotel, Galway.
We are delighted to announce our 20th anniversary Annual Conference and General Meeting which will take place 5th & 6th June 2014 at the beautifully located Salthill Hotel, Galway. We took on board suggestions from members from last year and have an exciting line up at this year’s conference.
Trish Murphy is a systemically trained psychotherapist and has worked in the field of sexuality since 1984. Her workshop will look at the issues that commonly crop up in the student population in the field of sexuality. Interventions and scenarios will be put forward as aids to counselling and participants will be invited to practice these on the day.
Day 2 will focus on Mindfulness starting with a practice led by Orna Cooke who has been working for 25 years in the area of counselling and psychotherapy. Orna facilitates the 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programme developed by Jon Kabat Zinn .
Declan Aherne, Head of Student Counselling, University of Limerick will follow with a presentation on an examination of the modern phenomenon of Mindfulness inc. in our society.
There will also be poster presentations of the exciting, on-going work in our university and college Student Counselling Services throughout both days.
Delegates are invited to a gala dinner which will take place on the Thursday evening, where we will celebrate and remember 20 years as an organisation.
The annual conference is an important time for us to come together and share in our experiences, the good, the bad and the ugly, of Student Counselling. It’s an opportunity to network with colleagues, find out what our counterparts are doing and in general, enjoy each other’s company. This year is particularly special as we acknowledge 20 years in existence.
Conference booking can be made here at the IAUCC webpage. Please specify what college you are from when registering. The Salthill Hotel has held rooms for us (until May 2nd) for those of you who want to stay at the hotel at a reduced rate of €75. You can book rooms directly through the hotel.
