Declan Aherne

This paper examines the modern popularity of mindful practice and looks to put it in the context of a western society that looks to eastern practices as a means of addressing its mental health problems.  This is a very welcome and yet intriguing development as Declan sees it, and he is asking the very simple and basic question ‘ What is this all about ? ‘  Declan shares his views on the challenges posed as well as the opportunities offered for a more integrative and inclusive approach to east – west dialogue.  In particular he is keen that we don’t lose sight of those cultures and traditions within which western society is steeped i.e. not to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
